Range of Motion
After 40+ years in the field of exercise and physical conditioning I am still amazed at how scientific facts and trends continually change. The ability of new scientific testing is creating some interesting changes that just 30 years ago were considered absolute facts.

There is no way that 4 minutes of any workout will give you the benefits of 30-60 minutes of sustained moderate intensity exercise - based on common belief among health professionals from research in the 1970’s.

Metabolic adaptations resulting from high intensity interval training may lead to better fat utilization in the post exercise state. Even though high intensity interval training consumes fewer calories during a 4 minute session as compared to twice as many calories burned during a 30-45 minute endurance training session the total calories burned during a 24 hour period is approximately 9 times greater for the high intensity interval training - based on research in Canada and Japan in 1995-96. Interval training has always been an accepted method for effective training. The high intensity is the questionable portion that may be ineffective for unconditioned individuals. The ROM (Range of Motion) has been designed to accommodate the unconditioned person and allow them to increase conditioning at their own pace. As trainers the ROM fits the functional training we have learned to use and promote as the most effective method for the largest portion of potential clients. Personal Trainer Reno is excited with the addition of the ROM to our current equipment which has already proven itself for effectiveness over the last six + years that we have been using it.
The only realistic criticism I have found on the ROM is that it can be compared to a dozen other machines that use both arms and legs at high intensity levels. This person goes on to say he can purchase all of the other equipment for less than the cost of the ROM. Our gym does not have room or need for a dozen different machines and we have never seen or used a better quality exercise machine. Comments from clients re-enforce our opinion.
